Weatherization Assistance Program suspended

The CNMI Energy Division of the Department of Public Works announced that it is suspending services under the Weatherization Assistance Program effective July 28, 2014, until further notice. For additional information, residents may contact the Energy office at 664-4480/1 or fax 664-4483. Funding opportunity for this program is made possible through a grant by the US Department of Energy. (PR)

Waters around FDM declared open for fishermen

ASAN, Guam—Waters surrounding the island of Farallon de Medinilla are deemed safe for local fishermen from Aug. 19 at 3pm to Aug. 27 at 11:59pm. The general public is advised to remain off the island of Farallon de Medinilla due to safety and security concerns.
Farallon de Medinilla plays a special and unique role in national defense because its location provides access frequency that supports established training requirements. In addition, the air and sea space in the Farallon provides sufficient room for the many different attack profiles necessary to replicate training opportunities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. CCA board meeting on Aug. 19

The Commonwealth Cancer Association’s board of directors will be holding its regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at 3pm at the CCA conference room. Military exercises on FDM, at W-517

The U.S. military will be conducting exercises on Farallon de Mendenilla and Area W-517 south of Guam. The schedule dates and time are as followed:

-Aug. 11, 1pm-09pm, FDM

-Aug. 13, 11am-11:55pm, FDM

-Aug. 14, 11am-06pm, FDM

-Aug. 15, 9am-11:55pm, FDM

-Aug. 13, 9am – 05pm, W-517

The general location of this activity will be at Farallon de Mendilla on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants and Area W-517, an irregular polygon south of Guam comprising southwest into international waters.

Due to the danger imposed by this activity, the general public especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are strongly advised to stay away from these areas during the time and dates indicated. (PR)
