Saipan SDA School open house on Aug. 21

The Saipan Seventh Day Adventist School will hold its open house today, Aug. 21, from 6:30pm to 8pm at Classroom 11.Everyone is invited and new enrollment is welcome. (PR)

DPS to close Marpi this Friday

The Department of Public Safety will block off the northern part of the island, Marpi, on Friday, Aug. 29, from 12 noon to 3pm.

The purpose of this blockage is to dispose of the significant collection of unexploded ordinance that has been collected by the Department of Public Safety Explosive Response Team.

All visitors to these popular areas of the island are requested to make arrangements to visit either in the morning before the 12 noon deadline or after the operation has completed at 3pm.

Anyone with questions may contact the Explosives Response Team operational supervisor, Sgt. Anthony I. Macaranas, at 483-5818. (DPS)

• Monday (8/25) – Freshmen & New Student with Parents 9-10:30am

• Tuesday (8/26) – Sophomore with Parents 9-10:30am

• Wednesday (8/27) – Juniors with Parents 9-10:30am

• Thursday (8/28) – Seniors with Parents 9-10:30am

• Friday (8/29) – Make Up Orientation for those that missed their scheduled dates with Parents 9-am10:30am

BECQ invites everyone to a free Snorkels event

The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, in partnership with Let’s Move Marianas! and Mariana Islands Nature Alliance, would like to invite the community to its second free CNMI Snorkels event this Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014 at 9am in Susupe, next to Naked Fish.

Come out and hop in the ocean with one of our marine biologists to learn more about our underwater world –and as an extra bonus get a work out in for your day! Snorkeling to the tanks and back will be from 9am to 11am.

Are you under the age of 18? If so, please make sure to bring a parent/guardian with you so they can sign a waiver for you.

Don’t have snorkeling gear? Not a problem! If you don’t have your own gear, we have gear for you!

As an added bonus, Naked Fish will give a 15 percent discount on special lunch items to all participants!

So mark your calendars and join us this Saturday for a day of fun and adventure into our underwater world.

MHS student orientations set

Marianas High School will be having the orientation for school year 2014-2015 as follow:

• Aug. 22: Incoming Sophomores and Juniors, 9:30am-11am, School Gym

• Aug. 22: Incoming Seniors, 1pm-2:30pm, School Gym

• Aug. 26: Incoming Freshmen, 9:30am-11:30am, School Gym

Returning students are required to bring an updated Health Certificate and Student Insurance. Parents are highly encouraged to participate. (MHS)

OVR counselor on Rota

This is to inform the public that a vocational rehabilitation counselor will be on Rota from Aug. 20 to 21 at the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Receiving Center in Songsong Village. New Election Commission phone numbers

This is to inform all department and agencies of the CNMI government that the telephone numbers for the Commonwealth Election Commission has changed, effective Monday, August 11, 2014. The new numbers are 235-8683, 235-8680 and 664-8682. The fax number is 664-8689 remain the same. (PR)
