Guam sailor dies in motorcycle accident
AGAT, Guam-A sailor attached to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Guam died in a motorcycle accident on Route 2 outside of Agat on July 23.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Guam Police Department. The identity of the sailor is being withheld until next of kin are notified. (JRM)
Meeting for ribbon-cutting rites for Kiosku project
Organizers of the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Saipan Leadership Memorial Kiosku in Chalan Kanoa are inviting family members, relatives, and friends of the honorees to attend the meeting set for tomorrow, July 26, 2012, at the Multi-Purpose Center at 6pm.

Joint Region Marianas to hold change of command rites
NIMITZ HILL, Guam-Rear Adm. Tilghman D. Payne will relieve Rear Adm. Paul J. Bushong during a change of command ceremony July 27. The ceremony is scheduled for 10am at Flag Circle in Nimitz Hill.
Payne will serve as commander, Joint Region Marianas; U.S. Defense Representative Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau; and commander, U.S. Naval Forces Marianas based in Guam. He is reporting to Guam after serving as commander, Navy Region Midwest, Great Lakes Ill.
Bushong, who has been nominated for promotion to vice admiral, will serve as U.S. security coordinator, Israel-Palestinian Authority. (PR)
FEMA, NMI to host disaster recovery workshop
Federal Emergency Management Agency and CNMI government officials will be hosting a National Disaster Recovery Framework Rollout and Workshop tomorrow, July 26, 2012, at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center-E.O.C. on Capitol Hill, from 9am to 12pm.
The workshop will introduce how, as a nation, federal, state, territorial, and local governments and public and private organizations, together, can successfully recover following a disaster. It will outline coordination structures, leadership roles and responsibilities, and recovery planning guides at all levels of government before a disaster happens.
Workshop participants will include FEMA, CNMI government officials, local governments, private sector participants, non-profit and faith-based organizations. (FEMA)
Survivors, caregivers support meeting tomorrow
All people facing cancer, their family members, and caregivers are invited to the next Commonwealth Cancer Association monthly support meeting tomorrow, July 26, 2012, at the Fiesta Resort and Spa Saipan, starting at 5:30pm. TES kindergarten enrollment
Kindergarten registration at Tanapag Elementary School has started and will run up to Aug. 3, from 7:30am to 4:30pm, at the main office of the school campus. There will be only 20 slots for kindergarten. It’s a first-come, first-served basis. Requirements include a registration form, health clearance/ certificate, birth certificate, proof of guardianships, and map of residency. For more information contact the main office at 237-3162/4. Air Force, Navy training on FDM, Warning Area 517
The U.S. Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla on July 23-27, from 8am to 12:59am. The Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on July 24-25, from 8am to 5pm.
The general public, especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and marine tour operators, are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated.
The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants.
W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. (PR)
Cleanup, Paint, and Beautify Day at MHS
On Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, the Marianas High School Parent Teacher Association will conduct a Cleanup, Paint, and Beautify Day at the MHS campus. The PTA invites all parents, students, teachers, and any other interested members of the community to meet at the MHS at 7:30am to help prepare the campus for the new school year.
