Kagman High returns to normal schedule
This is to announce the return of the regular schedule at Kagman High School. Beginning today, Dec. 2, classes will begin at 8:20am and end at 3:20pm. Thank you to all stakeholders for your support as we made up the time lost after the typhoon. We would also like to thank all of the parents who made it to the PTSA meeting in November and joined the committees so that we can make some things happen for our students in our community. Our next meeting is on Dec. 17 at 5pm in the Kagman elementary school cafeteria. (PR)
DPS sets sobriety checkpoints this weekend
The Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Section will be conducting sobriety checkpoint on Dec. 5 and 6, 2015.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, the first setup will be on Chalan Pale Arnold, Garapan by Taro Sue Store, on the northbound lane, from 8pm to 9:15pm. The second setup will be on Beach Road, Chalan Kanoa, in front of Triple J Wholesale, on the northbound lane, from 10:30pm to 11:45pm.
On Sunday, Dec. 6, the first setup will be on Beach Road, Chalan Lau Lau, adjacent to the residence of the late Dr. Benusto Kaipat, on the southbound lane, from 6pm to 7:45pm. The second setup will be on Chalan Monsignor Guerrero, Dandan, by Joeten Commercial Building, from 8pm to 9:15pm.
In addition, police will be conducting laser speed enforcement along various highways. (DPS)
Saipan chamber meeting today
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly general membership meeting today, Dec. 2, at the Royal Taga Hall of the Saipan World Resort. Wednesday is also the Education Committee’s Career Exploration Day so there will be lots of high school seniors in attendance. This month’s speakers will be members from Saipan Young Professionals and Pacific Century Fellows. Speakers include Tyrell Pauling from Hyatt Regency Saipan and Vince Seman from Century Insurance Group. (SCC)
BECQ Brigade to tackle COP beach
The Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality’s Cleanup Brigade will be picking up trash at Coral Ocean Point Beach on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, starting at 8am. If you would like to volunteer, meet the BECQ representatives on Saturday at the Coral Ocean Point Beach area/parking lot at 8am. Volunteers will split into groups and clean until 10am and break for drinks and then continue, if needed.
This month, outstanding brigade volunteers who participated in at least 10 monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated in at least three 3 cleanups will receive a brigade T-shirt. For more information about volunteering, contact the BECQ office at 664-8500/1. (BECQ)
Military training at FDM, Warning Area 517
ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following dates and times:
• Dec. 2, from 10am to 11pm
• Dec. 3, from 2-11pm
• Dec. 4-5, from 2-9pm
• Dec. 6, from 2-10pm
The U.S. Navy will conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Dec. 2, from 7pm to 11pm.
The general public, especially fishermen, commercial pilots and marine tour operators are advised to stay clear of the areas during the dates and times indicated. (JRM)
