Let Gov. Inos do his job
We’re on the road to economic recovery, and Public Law 18-56 is part of that recovery. Gov. Inos realizes that and that’s why he’s doing his best to make the casino industry possible and save our retirees from financial doom.
Glen Hunter’s letter gives the governor an unkind lecture about the right way to run the Commonwealth. Glen goes into some detail about his own legal theories of why Public Law 18-56 is legally inappropriate. And we should trust Glen’s opinion, because as we all know, Glen is a highly experienced lawyer and a constitutional scholar.
No, wait. He’s not. He never set foot in law school. And unlike Gov. Inos, Glen didn’t even go to college. So what’s he doing lecturing us about legal matters, when the governor’s legal counsel has already cleared the issues with House Bill 18-195, which became Public Law 18-56?
Glen promises us a vote “in just a matter of four short months.” Does he have some special, shorter months that we don’t know about? Is this new arithmetic? Over here in reality, a month is a pretty long time, and four months is much too long to wait for a decision on reviving the CNMI’s economy. That’s why executive decisions are made by the executive and not by the electorate. As much as it hurts Glen’s fragile ego to hear it, Gov. Inos and the Legislature don’t have to check with Glen before fulfilling their duties to raise money for the Commonwealth and save our retirees.
Glen, your glory days, if there ever were any, are well over. You can’t run on Tina’s coattails anymore. And you don’t impress anyone by trying to lecture the governor about things that you have no idea about, when you have absolutely no experience or education in the fields of law or government.
Let Gov. Inos do his job. Let retirees regain financial security. Let Public Law 18-56 do what it is intended to do. Let Glen Hunter out to pasture.

Mr. Sablan,
I usually don’t store useless advice but I vaguely recall you telling me the exact same thing a few years ago about my Uncle Ben.
“Boy leave Gov. Fitial alone and let him do his job! The PPA is part of his long term plan for economic recovery.”
Mr. Sablan,

“financial doom” isn’t resolved at all. Check the Fund Settlement Agreement to meet reality check! Far from it my friend.
Unfortunately, even by the Gov’s own admission this $30 mil will not be enough to pay everybody. AND for sure the annual $15mkil will not be able to sustain the retirees and also the mandated Govt. contribution tho the fund.
By the same timeline posted by Sunshine, it will be years before any type of casino is in operation let alone any major development.
Another problem will be when Inos “negotiates” and borrows against future annual $15 mil Casino payments. Soon there will be nothing coming in.
I also would like to see my 25% but I know it will be only until after the election, if that. Then nothing next year.
Best get a calculator and do the math along with the timeline on the “business plan.
As far as Glen goes, most of this will be brought up in court. This whole deal was done behind closed doors without any public input, which is illegal.
Also after the elections hopefully with new elected, things may change, AND if a Casino is still viable, there might be a slight possibility that the NMI will get a decent rate back on any income derived from it.
This whole deal is along the same lines as Fitial tried but in another area under another guise.
I would not be surprised if other illegal things along with prosecution comes out of this.
By chance if Inos is elected then it won’t be until after he is out of office, if he does not get elected it may be sooner along with others. We shall see.

In your opinion, at what point is a citizen allowed to comment on or participate in their own legislative process?
It’s safe to assume that everyone wants retirees to get the money contractually owed them. Everyone wants a strong, growing economy for the CNMI. The question then, is how is it achieved?
It’s reasonable to be concerned with the haste in which this law and exclusive license have been granted. Can we be assured this law was drafted carefully? Is the CNMI getting everything it can out of this arrangement?
Perhaps most importantly, who is making money from it? How transparent is the process?
I think we can all agree that these are reasonable questions for a public to ask its elected officials, and the elected officials are indeed ethically obligated to answer them.
Being an elected official means you are opening your opinions and actions to be scrutinized, studied, and criticized more than any other persons in the community. It is part of the job of being entrusted with representative power.
At the height of Glen’s career he worked as a sales manager and as far as I can tell he has done absolutely nothing for the CNMI except throw tantrums. Herman is right. The days of riding on Tina’s coat tails are well over and any candidate that stands next to him further hurts their chances of winning any voters. Not that they are going to win a seat anyway but at least they would get a few votes – something to cushion the loss of their employment, money, sanity and time.
And, you sure have done much with your hidden identity and diatribes, right? Amazing!
Herman;
He who supports CORRUPTION is also CORRUPTED!!!! Who are you to talk about what is good for the CNMI??? You, a former CUC Board Member is partly responsible for the downfall of CUC and the neglect of the power plant!!! You didn’t do your job boy as a board member to fix the problems of CUC back then and now you are telling people what is good for the CNMI!!!!! You are a FAILURE!!!! That is why people like you are called, “FORMER”!!!! Glen Hunter, keep on bringing the “Heat” to these CORRUPTED Officials brother!!!!!! Herman, you should be the one put out to pasture for your “Failures”!!!!!
All this save the retirees is all Inos political strategies to gain votes this November. In the first place he and Ben should have save the retirement fund! They Failed! Screwed up the future of a lot of hopeful’s nearing retirement. Herman stop politicking your a two face SOB. You like to pretend your so supportive but your just out for your own self interest. As for your letter well let’s just say your entitled to your own lousy opinion.
Herman, this is a nasty letter boy. People that write this kind of letter only mean one thing: sold his soul for a few silver. Are you finally getting the contract that your uncle ben fitial screwed you over? for your info, I respect Mr. Glen Hunter than any of your cronies. Get lost!!!
This is what happens when issues have faces, they forget the issues and attack the faces. It is cowardice.
It is not so fearful to discuss things even with differences of opinions and differences of opinions is not a sign of disrespect. What is disrespectful is to use an issue disguising a solution to attack a person’s personal character.
In the eyes of the laws of this land, WE are all equal and granted, no matter which walk of life – even immigrants – the RIGHT to speak and protest against leadership actions that APPEAR to be improper contributing to public distrust.
We are only answerable to God for our personal character and way of life, and even that is not enough to control our inner baseness at times. WE have all fallen victims to our own demons, so do not be too judgmental lest you find yourself in the front a canon aimed RIGHTEOUSLY at you.
Sooooo what I’m getting from this is, no one is allowed an opinion unless they are lawyers or support Inos? Nice.
