Torres and Trump

On March 11, 2016, I was extremely disappointed to have learned that our local leaders, especially Gov. Ralph Torres, made the decision to publicly endorse Republican Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and his campaign to be our next Commander-in-Chief. Never in my life have I ever been so embarrassed not just as an American of this great nation, but also as a young Chamorro born and raised in the Northern Mariana Islands.

I am in no position to speak on behalf of the people of the CNMI, so I will leave that to our “elected” officials and aspiring politicians. However, I stand with every other Chamorro-American citizen of our Commonwealth, at home and abroad, who DO NOT WANT Mr. Trump to become the next President of the United States of America.

Now, I am very neutral when it comes to politics because I have seen how “being on the wrong side” can rip apart families and friends. However, I can no longer stand idle to the absurdity and political upheaval that Mr. Trump displays at his campaign rallies and the Presidential debates witnessed by the rest of America and her allies. I am sorry Governor Torres, but Donald Trump is not and will never be the best choice for our Commonwealth.

Our one chance to let our voices be heard in Washington has been WASTED on a candidate who incites violence and racism. Now, don’t get me wrong he is a “smart” man, spending millions of his own money to hire the SMART individuals who do the research for him, meanwhile he studies the “cliff-notes” in preparation for his rallies and debates.

I have the seen the videos of his “political” rallies, with his supporters cursing, physically assaulting others. The worst of it being the escorting out of peaceful individuals of different ethnic groups and religions from his events, while he calmly stands there supporting their racial slurs and physical altercations.

Is this really the man, the candidate who you and our elected officials believe will make America great again? Do you support a man who is pathological liar, racist, and supports a pro-white political system?

A man who could not even develop his own plans for the U.S. territories, but decided to adopt the plans of a former candidate?

A man who did not even know of our existence until he decided to run for President?

A man whose greatest plan is to build a wall to block out immigrants? And make Mexico pay for it?

A man who has had more bankruptcies than most people in the world?

Do you honestly believe that he will continue to support our small Commonwealth?

If so, you are the supporter of an agenda that mirrors Hitler’s Nazi era. Trump’s ideology of racial nationalism will only grow from here.
