CUC Cashier’s Office reopens

The Cashier Department of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. re-opened yesterday, Oct. 22, 2019, for purchases of prepay tokens only.
In a statement yesterday, it said all other CUC offices will remain closed until the typhoon condition clears.

Guam to release more tax refunds

HAGATNA, Guam—The Guam Department of Revenue & Taxation will mail this week 562 tax refund checks totaling approximately $1.5 million, including refunds garnished to repay government debts for error-free returns filed on or before April 27, 2019.

SHRM meeting postponed to Oct. 30

In consideration to most private businesses and the government office closure due to the recent typhoon, the Society for Human Resource Management NMI Chapter is postponing its general membership meeting that was scheduled for today, Oct. 23, to Oct. 30, 2019. The time and venue remain the same.  
The meeting, which will still be held at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan’s Charley’s Cabaret beginning at 11am, will feature PSS Cooperative Education program coordinator Brandon Nicholas and Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence executive director Maisie Tenorio. This meeting is open to the public.

Guam Passport Office closed today

The Guam Department of Revenue and Taxation’s Guam Passport Office will be closed today, Oct. 23, 2019, from 8am to 5pm for annual training with the U.S. Department of State. Regular office hours of 8am to 5pm will resume tomorrow, Oct. 24, 2019. (PR)

Golf tournament fundraiser for JKPL

The 4th Annual Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library Golf Tournament Fundraiser will take place on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course. Game format is Low Gross and Double Peoria, 2-Person Scramble (Men and Women). Cost to participate is $200 entry per team. All proceeds will help support the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and its resource and collection development, circulation materials, and library programs. Last day to register is Thursday, Nov. 7, at 5pm. (PR)

Business Expo 2019 on Nov. 9

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will hold its newly re-instated Chamber Business Expo on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9am to 4pm at the Saipan World Resort. The goal is for Chamber members to showcase their company and new products and services to the local market.

Guam workshops on federal contracting

The Guam Procurement Technical Assistance Center is offering free workshops on federal contracting. The workshops will run from 9am to 10am at the University of Guam in the Jesus and Eugenia Leon Guerrero Business and Public Admin Building, Margarita Perez & Jaime Tuquero IT&E Lecture Hall, Room 131(unless otherwise specified):
Oct. 24: Wages – Which wage do you pay your employees on government contracts? The Guam PTAC will discuss the various laws and regulations to make sure you stay in compliance. 
Oct. 31 31: Teaming & JVs – What are they and which is right for your business? The Guam PTAC will discuss the federal regulations related to these arrangements and discuss ways to use these arrangements effectively.
For project management professionals, Guam PTAC workshops may count toward your annual professional development unit (PDU) goals!

Saipan to host terrestrial conservation conference

The 3rd Annual Marianas Terrestrial Conservation Conference & Workshop will be held on Nov. 18-20, at the Hibiscus Hall of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan in Garapan. Registration is free and open to the public, and will include presentations on terrestrial conservation, field trips and activities such as pre-conference proa rides and Mariana swiftlet field trip, and a lizard identification trip at American Memorial Park.
