Jeong wins October ace

Yu Su Jeong won the CNMI Women’s Golf Association October Ace of the Month Tournament held last Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course.

Jeong came away with the day’s best net score of 69 after carding a 44 in the front nine and a 43 in the back for a pre-handicap score of 87. The South Korean lady golfer sports an 18 handicap.

The mother-and-daughter tandem of Noriko and Yuko Togawa were tied at second with an identical net score of 73. The latter actually shot the day’s lowest gross score with her 75, built around a 35-40 back and front nine. The former, meanwhile, shot a 40-40 for a gross score of 80.

Wang Ching Lin and Margaret Tenorio completed the Top 5 with net scores of 74 and 79, respectively. The 12-handicap Lin improved her 88 gross (45-43), while Tenorio came away with a monster gross score of 111 (58-53) but was saved by her 32 handicap.

A total of 20 players took part in CWGA’s October Ace last weekend. The rest of the players, with their net scores in parenthesis, are as follows: Kyung A Yung (81), Bennett Seman (81), Lou Kim (83), Ukita Terue (83), Sherlyn Jones (85), Dolores Yamaguchi (86), Seo Kyung Ran (88), Lorraine Babauta (89), and Matilda Hocog (95).

Three members—Masayo Miyamoto, Chang Eun Ae, and Pil Sun Kitami—all wound up with identical net scores of 77, but failed to submit their scorecards.

Ming Hua Yoon also took part in the tournament and shot a gross of 91 (45-45). She, however, has no handicap assigned to her yet.

Established in March 2007, CWGA is a nonprofit organization founded to promote, encourage, and introduce women to the sport of golf in the CNMI.

The organization intends to accomplish the following: 1. Promote civic and community interest in golf; 2. Establish and encourage competition and good sportsmanship; 3. Promote and provide social functions of the members and their families; 4. Promote youth golf activities; and 5. To do any or all things necessary and proper to accomplish its purpose and intention.

CWGA also commits its members to abide by a set of values that will further enrich a golfer’s performance, attitude, and conduct-adopted form the USA Junior Golf Association.

The set of values members of CWGA are committed to faithfully are as follows: perseverance; sportsmanship; respect; honesty; judgment; responsibility; reliance; courtesy; and sincerity.
