The Commonwealth Council of Arts and Culture said it is finalizing its preparations for the annual Christmas Exhibit.

Acting director Ramona Rebuenog said it would be a month-long activity from Dec. 1 to 31 near the CCAC office.

“We are currently contacting all the artists who have joined previous exhibits. We will be coming up with flyers to be posted in stores and schools very soon,” Rebuenog said.

Arts coordinator Parker Yabui said this is an opportunity for local artists to showcase their crafts and at the same time sell their products.

“We’re inviting artists as well as the public to participate and feel the spirit of the holiday season,” Yabui said.

Meanwhile the CCAC has tentatively set the date for the two-day Music Festival at the Garapan Fishing Base from Dec. 5-6.

This event will be held for the first time in the CNMI, which is aimed to revive and gather known musicians and upcoming ones to showcase their talents.

This festival is part of CCAC’s effort to promote the sounds that people in the Marianas are familiar with.

Secretary Cecilia Taitano-Celes of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs earlier said they would make sure that this event would involve the legendary as well as current artists in the CNMI.

“This would showcase how the music of the Marianas really sound. We are coordinating with the Division of Youth Services since we will be tapping young singers to be strongly involved in this activity,” Taitano-Celes said.

She said this is an opportunity for them to perform live in front of an audience.

Some of the legendary musicians that the Arts Council will be tapping to be part of the event are former congressman Candy Taman and three members of the board of directors of the Arts Council, David Peter, Joseph Diaz and Joe Limes.

She said a lot of them would be invited “so that they would be able to share their songs for the young talents to emulate.”
