Balakrishna notches SGA August Ace
Steve Balakrishna claimed the Saipan Golfers Association August Ace title after besting 21 other members in the monthly tournament played last Sunday at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
Balakrishna tamed the west course of the Kagman facility after carding a 3-over par 39 on the front nine and an even par 36 on the back. Deducting his six handicap, Balakrishna ended up with a net 69 for a two-stroke win over Juan L. Babauta.
The newly crowned SGA August Ace also shot two birdies and won the closest to the pin contest on the par-3, 180-yard hole No. 7. Other closest to the pin winners were Jose I. Sablan (No. 3), John Cruz (No. 17), and Das Krishnan (No. 13).
Jose I. Sablan also placed third in the monthly tournament with his net 72, followed by Martin Sablan (73), Steve Jang (75), Cruz (75), Jim Mitchell (75), Krishnan (76), Tony I. Deleon Guerrero (77), Jung Eun Teack (77), Mariano Fajardo (77), Manny C. Sablan (77), Edward Manibusan (78), Frank Castro (78), Matt Chargualaf (78), Norbert Sablan (79), Art Deleon Guerrero (80), Joe Demapan (82), Larry Deleon Guerrero (84), Jess Castro (85), and Frances Sablan (95).
Jang posted the most birdies in the 21-player field with his four, while Martin Sablan, Krishnan, and Fajardo collected one each. In the longest drive contests, Manibusan prevailed on the par 4, 360-yard hole No. 11 and Jang won on the par-4, 404-yard No. 6.
SGA’s next tournament will be the September Ace at Coral Ocean Point with the date and tee-off and check-in times to be announced later.
Winners in the 12 monthly competitions will participate in the season-ending SGA Ace of the Aces Tournament. Balakrishna is one of them, joining early qualifiers Tony I. Deleon Guerrero (January), Cruz (February), Nick C. Sablan (March), Manibusan (April), Ray M. San Nicolas (May), Joe I. Sablan (June), and Danny Quitugua (July).
