Aqua Resort Club is renovating its facilities for $3.5 million amid rising competition in the CNMI’s hotel industry.

The ongoing renovation commenced last month. It will include refurbishing of all the 91 hotel rooms, as well as the Raraina and Costa Terrace restaurants. Sixteen out of the 91 hotel rooms of ARC would be converted into bigger “family-type” rooms, according to ARC owners’ representative and secretary Ken Yanagisawa.

The restaurants will have new interior designs and furniture. ARC is also converting its lobby into an air-conditioned café and bar lounge, while the premises are undergoing landscaping.

ARC’s management said that the ongoing facelift is geared toward making ARC “a premier hotel destination in Micronesia.” It expects the renovation’s completion by May 2005.

Ramon C. Cabrera, ARC’s acting general manager, also disclosed that he is in the process of creating a training department at the hotel to further hone employees’ skills.

Hospitality and quality service, Cabrera said, is the “software of being a premier resort hotel.”

Yesterday, ARC executives visited the Saipan Tribune office and offered coffee and snacks in what it calls its “Sales Blitz” campaign. The executives said the campaign is aimed at expressing ARC’s gratitude to the community for supporting the establishment.

Besides Cabrera and Yanagisawa, the executives included sales and marketing manager Dorina M. Gabutero, sales manager Yoshimi Kodama, and assistant food and beverage director Manny Barcial.

ARC’s Raraina restaurant is known for fine dining, while the Costa Terrace offers one of the most popular lunch buffets in the CNMI.

Ken Aqua Hotel and Resort, Inc. owns the hotel. The company belongs to the Tokyo-based Ken Corp., which engages in real estate and hotel ventures.
