Think before you speak

Mr. Juan Duenas’ comment “Man, who are you” clearly reflects more emotion than reason. If Mr. Duenas knew and had relationships with “all” of the 150,000-plus residents on Guam personally, then I would say that his statement would be convincing and perhaps believable. But since this is obviously not the case, then the above statement that he must consider profound is nothing more than empty words without meaning or content.

As far as my kin on the islands is concerned, my mother is a “Duenas” with a significant number of relatives on Guam. Since when did the Duenas family appoint Mr. Juan Duenas to represent the “entire” family and proclaim their sentiments about whether or not they are of blood relation to me? Moreover, I am certain that Mr. Duenas IS NOT familiar with all of my family from my mother’s side (Duenas), as well as my father’s side (Camacho). Because of this, I think that his emotionally empty comment via a letter to the media recently is not only without merit, but naïve and inappropriate.

Mr. Duenas has a right to his opinion, but that does not mean that everyone will be receptive and agree with it, especially me. His comment “Your ego must be super-sized” was an emotionally unjustified statement simply because it was purely “subjective.” If Mr. Duenas possessed a degree in medicine with a specialty in psychiatry and I were a patient of his, then I might consider the abovementioned description of my ego as being somewhat accurate. However, since I don’t think Mr. Duenas is a bona fide psychiatrist with credentials qualifying him to analyze the brain, as well as human behavior and I am not his patient (thank God!), then his un-profound assessment of me is totally irrelevant, absurd, not to mention puerile.

And lastly, I do have a life and wonderful family. And as far as “get a blog” and “save some trees,” I will leave that for Mr. Duenas to take on since it is quite apparent he has nothing better to do than to submit ridiculous letters to the media.
