On public officials and travel

For all the travel that Gov. Juan N. Babauta, Lt. Gov. Diego Benavente and Senate President Joaquin Adriano took at our expense, the least the trio could have done was form a new airline for these isles.

I am sure taxpayers would join me in feeling “pretty darn good” when our taxes are spent on a profitable venture that would prevent the loss of about $216 million when JAL pulls out this October.

But I was jolted out of feeling “pretty darn good” to read that Babauta, Benavente and Adriano have spent $90,389.99, $27,532.32 and $141,044.77 respectively, on travel. I was hopping mad that House Speaker Benigno Fitial lost out on this travel lottery with his expenses, a meager $1,450 being dwarfed by the trio. A closer ocular scrutiny would be very revealing just how much this administration spent in roaming the golden skies to exotic places.

If the trio establishes their airline company, eh, no more da kine problem for da kine transportation costs for medical referees and their escorts, no more da kine problem flying everybody to Tinian, Rota and Guam. Only problem is: Mobil may refuse to provide the NMI with its jet fuel needs.
