Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association would hold its monthly general membership meeting for November at 6:30pm today at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.

Expected to be the main topic of discussion is the CNMI’s preparation for both the hosting and participation in the 2006 Micronesian Games, which will be held on Saipan from June 23 to July 7.

Each sport must submit the names of coaches for their respective teams. The submissions were actually due last month, however, it was extended to today, according to Saipan Major League’s Tony Rogolifoi.

About 1,500 to 1,700 athletes, coaches, and officials from around the Micronesian region are expected to take part in the quadrennial event.

The event was last held on Saipan in 1990. The state of Yap originally won the bid to host next year’s Games. It, however, begged off in the last minute citing the destruction brought on by typhoons to its facilities. This resulted in the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee awarding the Games to the CNMI.

Among the sports proposed for quadrennial event on Saipan are athletics, basketball, baseball for men, beach volleyball, golf, softball, slow pitch softball, spear fishing, sailing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, outrigger canoeing, volleyball, wrestling for men, weightlifting, and Micronesian all around.
