MCV General Manager Joe Butters announced yesterday the appointment of Frances D. Salas as the company’s new Continuity Director. Salas takes over the position as former director Mary McKenzie leaves to return to the U.S. mainland.

“We are very lucky to have someone like Frances in our company,” says Butters. “Her wealth of experience and positive attitude makes her an incredible asset,” adds Butters.

As a continuity director, Salas is responsible for keeping track of all commercials that air on MCV. Once the production department finishes a commercial, it enters a system that identifies it from all other commercials. Based on the orders from the client who bought the airtime, the commercial is given a certain number of airings. Each day a new schedule of commercials is made for that day’s local and network programming. This schedule is then given to the operators in the playback center to ensure the right commercial plays at the right time. Once a commercial airs, the continuity director then logs it so that the actual schedule matches the client’s order.

Salas is no stranger to the aspects of cable TV operations. She started with the former Saipan Cable TV in 1978 as a part of the MHS co-operative educational program. Through the years she worked her way up the ranks, becoming assistant general manager in 1996. She was an invaluable resource during the merger of the two systems, possessing a thorough knowledge of SCTV customers. Her achievements were rewarded earlier this year, when she was awarded MCV’s Employee of the Month award.

Frances will officially assume her new duties on June 14h.
