CPA imposes $1 parking fee at airport
Beginning today, the Commonwealth Ports Authority will be charging $1 per hour to vehicle owners who will use the parking lot at the Saipan International Airport as part of its revenue generating measure.
CPA Executive Director Carlos H. Salas said a booth, manned by trained employees of the ports authority, will be set up and operated 24 hours every day. But he said CPA employees are exempt provided that they have the official CPA badge.
However, Salas warned employees of the ports authority against abusing this privilege such as using their badge to bring out a friend or relative’s car from the parking lot or issuing badge to another person.
Those who will park their vehicles for less than an hour would still be charged $1.00. Parking for 24 hours would cost $10.00. Airport tenant employees will have a special rate of $35 per annum.
Don’t ever lose your parking ticket because it will cost you $10 per day.
All taxicab operators authorized by CPA management to operate at the airport will be charged a monthly taxicab permit fee of $25.00 per vehicle, payable upon issuance of the permit.
No vehicle or taxicab may operate at the airport without a valid taxicab decal issued by the ports authority.
Saipan Seaport will begin charging parking fee on October 1, 1999, according to its general manager Antonio Cabrera. “We have to put some system at the seaport parking lot because some people just leave their car for a long time and we don’t want to be responsible for their vehicles,” he said.
This developed as CPA increased fuel flowage fee at the airport to two and one-half cents per gallon from one-half cent effective today. The fee, according to the ports authority, shall be paid upon delivery of aviation gasoline and jet fuel to the airport.
Likewise, ground handling permit fee will be increased to $10,000 per calendar quarter from $5,000 starting today.
