Int’l fishing derby for kids
The CNMI will play host next month to the First International Children’s Fishing Derby for kids ages 7 to 12 which organizers hope would attract young children to engage in sport fishing and promote friendship among participants.
The event, which is sponsored by Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan and the CNMI Division of Fish and Wildlife, will be held on August 29, 1999 on-board the Sea Start.
According to Organizers, they are expecting some 20 participants in the fishing derby which will take place from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
Application forms are available at JM & Associates with telephone numbers 234-3533 or at Fish and Wildlife office with telephone numbers 664-9627. Deadline for submission is August 18, 1999 at 4:00 PM.
Competition rules are as follows:
• All participants must be between the age of 7 and 12 years old.
• All participants must be at the Sea Plan Ramp on Aug. 29, 1999 at 12:15 PM and check in at Sea Star boat.
• All participants should use rods, baits and hooks provided by the boat.
• Safety instructions from the captain should always be observed.
• Other instructions that will be given by the captain and his crew should be followed.
• The derby officials ruling is final.
• All participants must check in their catch to qualify. Those who will not turn over their catch are disqualified.
• Each participant is entitled to one prize only.
Prizes will be given for the winners in total combined weight, single biggest fish and total overweight fish categories.
