As part of its continuing reorganization efforts, the Northern Marianas College has began conducting a comprehensive audit of all positions in the organization, a top college official said yesterday.

Ramon G. Villagomez, chairman of NMC’s Board of Regents, said the audit will determine the purpose and function of each position and whether that position is needed.

“We want to know what are the qualifications of people who should occupy those positions and whether the people who are there already are qualified,” Villagomez said.

The audit, Villagomez added, will also determine the reasonable salary rates for every position compared to other colleges “of similar size and in similar communities.”

“At the end, we will compile all these information and come up with a report indicating how each and very position in the college has been audited,” Villagomez said.

The board chief said the job audit is part of NMC’s continuing reorganization and austerity measures.

NMC began early this year a revamp at the organization, which resulted in the removal of certain positions and the ouster of certain college officials. NMC has not filled up several vacant positions since the reorganization program began, Villagomez said.

“By doing that, we were able to save $1.6 million,” Villagomez said.

Villagomez said NMC will continue getting rid of positions which the audit would determine to be unnecessary.

“We might also find positions that we may need but we don’t have right now. We will discuss what to do with those,” Villagomez said. (MCM)
