What could be a perfect match for the cool breeze that blows into the Pacific Gardenia’s Sunset Bar and Grill?

You bet, the Kool Change Band.

It has been a mainstay at Sunset Bar and Grill — reggaeing and rock ‘n’ rolling for seven years now.

You also want to cha-cha? They will let you dance cha-cha until you’re dead tired.

The band’s repertoire consists mostly of “oldies but goodies.” But having a diverse audience requires the band to experiment and learn something new every now and then, says bassist and vocalist Freddy Noblado. Since Sunset Bar & Grill is a “melting pot” for different nationalities, the all-Filipino band has also been inspired to perform Japanese, Korean, Chamorro, and other Micronesian hit songs.

The other members of the band are Dennis Dionisio (drums), Obet Deseo (keyboards), Ogie Cadua (lead guitar) and the newest member, vocalist Loreta Arellano.

“We used to be an all-male band until we decided that we needed a female vocalist for songs that only suit a female voice,” says Noblado.

The band, formed in 1992, was originally called Chosen Fools. They changed the band’s name to The Ambassadors in 1994.

In 1995, it became Kool Change, which was taken from the hit song Cool Change by the Little River Band.

Kool Change performs at Sunset Bar & Grill from 9:00 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Sundays; and from 8 p.m. to 12:45 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
