The Board of Elections yesterday reminded candidates to tear down their campaign posters and billboards by Dec. 6, and to turn in their statements of campaign contributions by Dec. 26.

Under the CNMI election code, candidates are required to clear up their campaign materials 30 days from the election day. They are also required by the code to submit their contribution records to the elections board 50 days after the polls.

“Candidates who violate these requirements face corresponding penalties. It may be a misdemeanor but it should embarrass them if they get cited for violation,” said BOE Executive Director Gregorio Sablan.

About 68 candidates ran for the Nov. 6 midterm elections. It’s been almost a week since the election day, and several campaign posters and billboards remain visible in public places. (MC)
