Tinian mayor announces reelection bid
The general election may still be two years away, but Tinian Mayor Francisco M. Borja has already announced that his seeking another four-year term in the year 2001.
Borja unveiled his intention to seek fresh mandate after the Democrats swept all the seats in the island municipality in the Nov. 6 polls.
“I am proud that we, the people of Tinian, chose the right people to lead us into the next millennium. All of these candidates support my administration and my projects,” he said.
Despite attacks against his administration, Borja said he was happy that the people ignored these and voted for his candidates. He called on the people to set aside their political differences so that they can sit down to work for the future of Tinian.
“I humbly ask the people of Tinian to join me in my quest for a second term in office,” Borja told supporters.
He promised to strengthen Tinian’s gaming industry, increase local revenue appropriated for education specifically the scholarship program, establish a local flea market, improve local agriculture and fishing industry, work with the federal government in securing the matching funds for infrastructure.
The mayor believes that he has a good chance of being reelected, saying he has worked hard to meet the needs of the community. While the only casino hotel is still struggling to survive on the island, Borja said he intends to put Tinian in the gaming industry map.
