Saipan Stars 94, Sharks 91
Saipan Stars handed Sharks their third defeat, 94-91, during Wednesday night’s game of the Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands at Ada Gym, to improve their record 2-1 after being defeated by the San Vicente Sunrisers.
Stars’ George De Guzman and Aaron Burch combined for 39 points. De Guzman had two assists, one block shot, 12 rebounds, three steals. Burch grabbed 19 rebounds, four block shots, one assist and a steal for the winners.
Sharks team played hard defense and tied the ball game at 58 all with 15:45 remaining in the second half. However, Stars made another run to take the lead for good.
John Santos of the Sharks had 34 points, four of which from the 3-point lane, the highest score so far logged for the season. He also had eight rebounds and one assist.
Gus Palacios contributed 14 points, while one of the promising stars, Gyles Ruluked, grabbed nine rebounds and a steal in a losing cause.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers posted their third straight win for the season after defeating Len’s Bar & Grill 89-63 in the second game.
George Masga had 19 boards to lead the Sunrisers, followed by Jawn Joyner. Mark Rozic of Len’s scored 24 points, while George Poquiz pitched in 14 points.
With 13:02 in the second half, Sunrisers were ahead by 26 points, but Joyner stole the ball to slam another dunk.
