Woman assaulted

Investigators of the Department of Public Safety are looking into the possibility that a 31-year-old woman may have been raped and assaulted after she was found almost unconscious behind a golf course in Chalan Kiya yesterday.

Sources from the police department said the woman, a Chinese national, was bleeding from the head and was only clad in T-shirt and underwear when the golf course’s security guard found her.

The police and ambulance responded to the call of the security guard.

The victim was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment.

Booty recovered

Members of the search team have recovered a booty belonging a missing tourist, dousing hopes that the victim is still alive.

According to a police report, the booty was recovered some 200-300 yards from the Bird Island lookout. DPS sources said the search may be called off.

Shen Hong Wen, 30, a Chinese national was last seen heading to the Grotto in Marpi at around 12:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day. He did not return to the hotel where he was billeted.

A combined team from the Boating Safety, TRET, Dive and Fire Rescue units conducted the search. (Lucy Rosario)
