Red Cross braces for annual walkathon
As the Red Cross Walkathon Committee continues to plan for its 14th Annual Walkathon, changes are being put into place and the Red Cross is gearing up not only raise funds but to educate the community about the humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross movement worldwide.
Through presentations scheduled at each of the schools, various government agencies and civic groups, the Red Cross wants to share its story to the Commonwealth.
According to Walkathon Chair Monica Perez, “All around the world and especially here in the Commonwealth, we want people to know that the Red Cross is relevant to everyone whether it is learning how to save a life, learning how to prevent emergencies or connecting loved ones in the U.S. Armed Forces with their families. The promise the Red Cross has made is that “We’ll Be There” and spreading the word about our services is one way we are keeping that promise.”
The 14th Annual Walkathon has been scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2000. It will be a 10K walk that begins and ends at Kilili Beach Park. Everyone who raises a minimum of $15 will receive a free T-shirt. All participants will also be entered into a drawing and have a chance to win additional prizes.
For more information on the event or to obtain a Walkathon form, call the chapter office at 234-3459. Businesses interested in sponsoring the event and becoming a Friend of the Red Cross are also encouraged to call.
