CNMI Bar Association elects officers

The CNMI Bar Association held its annual election of officers and director at its February membership meeting. The following officers and directors were elected to hold office until Feb. 2001:

President: Ramon G. Villagomez

Vice President: Maya Kara

Secretary: Glenn Robles

Treasurer: Perry Inos

Directors: Mike White
Ramona Manglona

The Bar has also selected the chairpersons for the following committees:

Admissions Committee: Jose Bermudes

Disciplinary Committee: Elaine Paplos

Bar/Court Committee: Jay Sorenson

Program Committee: Sheila Bowman

CLE Committee

(Continuing Legal Education): Christine Matson

Judicial/Gov’t Committee: Herb Soll

According to Mr. Villagomez, he hopes to accomplish the following during his two-year term:

• improve the processing of complaints against attorneys;

• establish a program that would provide legal services to the poor and make the courts more accessible to everyone regardless of their background and status;

• provide more CLE and make CLE an ongoing requirement for all Bar members;

• protect the independence of the judiciary; and

• establish a high school mock trial program, pre-law program, and promote the study of law and legal profession.
