Red Cross Month in CNMI
Acting Gov. Jesus R. Sablan yesterday signed a proclamation declaring March as Red Cross Month in the CNMI in line with the national observance and to recognize the organization’s contributions to the communities across the nation.
He noted that the American Red Cross has been in the forefront in helping families prepare for a disaster and meet the immediate needs of individuals affected by disaster.
As a leading voluntary agency, it is also instrumental in training families in first aid, CPR, HIV/AIDS prevention education as well as in providing other needed services, Mr. Sablan said in his proclamation.
“I urge that our community acknowledge and support the ongoing contributions of the Red Cross and its many dedicated volunteers,” he said.
Mr. Sablan also called on the public to participate in the activities lined up by the local Red Cross chapter to mark the event, including a walkathon along Beach Road scheduled for Saturday, March 18.
Other activities include free health and safety classes, free HIV sessions and recognition of its many volunteers who make the work of the Red Cross possible
