The Marianas Visitors Authority will be producing a 30-minute promotional video that will showcase the different tourists spots of the Northern Marianas.

In its recent meeting, the MVA board had approved a $47,000 budget for the production of a video which will allow a 10-minute exposure for each of the islands of Saipan, Rota and Tinian.

MVA Managing Director Perry J. Tenorio said the finished product will be distributed to various travel agencies in Japan and Korea to help them in marketing the CNMI.

However, aside from showing the historical and beautiful spots of the island, MVA Board Member Roberta Guerrero said there is a need to include the different festivals on the island to allow the tourists to come here at the time when these activities are being held.

Board Member Mark Murai likewise said the current tourist channel in the cable station must be updated so that the travelers watching the show can participate in the various activities such as the food festival or the street market.

For this coming summer, MVA has already developed a promotional campaign which is set to entice the family market segment. Dubbed as “Happy Children in Paradise,” the marketing plan will run from June 1 to September 30, 2000.

In working with the members of Japan Marianas Tourism Club, MVA said it wanted to make sure that whatever they will be selling would appeal to the market. Children under 12 years of age will be covered by the summer campaign.

MVA is still using the mascot Sai-panda, symbolizing the male Japanese traveler who keeps on going back to Saipan which was created by advertising firm Dentsu. Targeting the family market, Dentsu has now added two more characters — a female Sai-panda and little Sai-panda. The mascot was created to increase mind share as well as to reposition and differentiate the CNMI from other destinations. (LFR)
