22nd HSBC Saipan Ocean swim

The 2nd Annual Saipan Ocean Swim sponsored by the Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation will again be hosted by the Saipan Swim Club on April 1, 2000 in the lagoon fronting the Saipan Diamond Hotel. Two World War II tanks will be used as markers for the different courses from 0.6 km to 2.6 km distances depending on the age groups.

Competition will be held for different age groups including Masters, and the schedule is a follows:

9-10 year old starts at 8:00 a.m. 1.0 km

8 and Under starts at 8:50 a.m. 0.6k m

11-12 year old starts at 9:15 a.m. 1.3 km

13-14 year old and seniors start at 10:10 a.m. 2.6 km

Masters (20 years and up) all start at 11:00 a.m. 1.3 km or 2.6 km

Lunch Awards Party follows immediately at Saipan Diamond Hotel Lanai Room.. Awards will be given to lst through 6th placers in all age divisions, males and females separately, including Masters breakdowns of 20-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-49 years, 50-59 years and 60 years and over.

There will be an entry fee of $7.00 for the event plus $12.00 for the banquet, and, $12.00 if you wish to purchase a T-shirt.

Check in for all events is 30 minutes before the start, and if the competition is progressing well, start times maybe even be a little earlier so be there early.

Tho local winners from last year’s ocean swim events were Amanda Johnson, Myana Welch, Ken Tanzawa, Seung Gin Lee, Justin Pierce, Nicole Forelli, Vince Seman, Gregg Kresge, Cloe Wurr, Val Welch, Jim Denight and Ron Smith. All Saipan Swim Club members this year will be competing, many for their first time.

If anyone would like to volunteer to help especially with kayaks or on boards for the safety of the swimmers, please call any swim club member.
