Int’l. Women’s Day Celebration on Friday
Earlier this month, acting Governor Jesus R. Sablan has proclaimed March as CNMI Women’s History Month and March 31st as International Women’s Day. Special Assistant for Women’s Affairs, Ana S. Teregeyo invites everyone from the community to the 12th Annual International Women’s Day celebration scheduled tomorrow at the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture in Capitol Hill.
Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio, in a memorandum, encourages all department and activity heads to grant annual leave for those individual employees who wish to attend the ceremony and art exhibit.
“The Month of March has been a very busy month for the office, however, the success of our activities was due to the efforts and cooperation of all the government agencies,” said Ms. Teregeyo.
This year the Women’s Affairs Office with the assistance and support of the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, the First Lady’s Vision Foundation, Inc., the Marianas Association of Filipino Women and participating private and public schools organized activities such as the first CNMI Women’s Arts Exhibition, Annual Health Symposium, Forum on Cultural Interaction Among Diversified Women in the CNMI and an essay contest reflecting the change in the role of indigenous women in the year 2000 and beyond.
“Annually, International Women’s Day has been organized and celebrated in the Commonwealth by various groups of women together in the spirit of unity and cooperation in an effort to provide a forum where women’s needs and aspirations can be addressed and celebrated,” Ms. Teregeyo explained.
