MILLER BEACH VOLLEYBALL Coffee Care teaches Volleyball 101
Mr. Tyce Mister had a torn heart on Thursday night at the Miller Four Person Beach Volleyball League at Pacific Islands Club. His Coffee Care team was playing the team he has been coaching all season long, the MHS Dolphins. Mister played the first se, and Coffee Care won big, 11-3. The second set was all the Dolphins as Mr. Mister took a break.
Consistent serving by all of the students paid off in an 11-8 victory. The third set was lesson time for Mr.-Mister’s students. Mister and crew took control in an 11-3 third set win and match victory. Coffee Care stands alone a top the league with 6 wins and 0 losses.
Many people were looking forward to the next match, Len’s Junk vs G-Money & Crew, but they were disappointed by a forfeit from Len’s Junk. Team captain Doug Mauro left in disgust after realizing he didn’t have a full team. G-Money had lost two in a row and was ripe for the upset.
“The best match of the year,” was Russ Quinn’s impression of the third game between Fresh Spring Rolls and No Fear. No Fear jumped all over FSR in the first set, 11-3. The Spring Rolls had that “deer in the headlights” look going into the second set.
Lani Buekis continued the roll by serving tough and digging balls in the second set. “Lani really gets sandy and puts 120% into every game,” said Alan “Fence” Buchanan, “It is great to see that kind of effort out here.”
No Fear had FSR down 9-3, but the Bangkok Bomber and his side dishes refused to go down. They clawed their way back for an 11-9 win, setting up the third and deciding set.
Neither team let their fans down in the see-saw final. Both teams had the lead and with time out the Fresh Spring Rolls pulled ahead for a dramatic 11 -9 victory.
“We refused to loose tonight,” commented Spring Rolls captain Jon Cramer. “Our fans really kept us in it. They wouldn’t accept a loss this week,” added Cramer. “Now we need to focus on toppling Coffee Care next week.” Coffee Care can clinch the title next week at 9:00 p.m. against the Fresh Spring Rolls.
The very hot Hot 98sters continued their winning ways with a three-set defeat of The Misfits. The Misfits started to click in the third set, but once again, too little too late was the end result. Hot 98sters solidified the second place spot by winning all three sets. They play the MHS Dolphins in their final game next week, and will be cheering on the Fresh Spring Rolls and G-Money & Crew to take down Coffee Care.
