Guest worker hit by van dies

Forty-seven-year-old Filipino contract worker Florentino C. Tayag died yesterday morning after he suffered internal injuries and multiple fractures when the bicycle he was riding was hit by a van.

The vehicle, a 1990 Chevrolet Silverado Suburban, driven by Cherylbeth Tollestrup, 42, hit the 12-speed mountain bike Mr. Florentino was riding at around 2:00 p.m. in front of Pacific Daiken in Gualo Rai on Monday.

According to police, the victim on board his bike was in the inner southbound lane when the vehicle, headed north, hit his bike as he tried to cross the road and enter the outer northbound lane.

Mr. Tayag, who works at Len’s II was rushed to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was placed under intensive care. Unfortunately, Mr. Tayag did not survive the serious injuries.
