The Garapan Pirates, the Big League Division 2000 Pennant champion, are heading to the championship game on Thursday, June 8, 2000 at 6:00 p.m.

They defeated the Tanapag Devil Rays 2-1 in a tough one. Jonathan Delos Santos was very impressive on the mound as he struck out 8 batters, gave up 1 hit, and no walks. The Pirates finished their regular season games with a record of 11-1. Their only loss came from the hands of the San Vicente Starz with a score of 1-0 in a pitching sensational duel of Hans Pua and Kevin Kapileo.

Kapileo is the earned runs average and strike out champion. The Expos clobbered defending champion Starz 17-3 in last Sunday’s post-season game via 10-run mercy rule.

The Expos, behind the superb pitching of lefty Jonathan Jones was too much as he pitched 5 strong innings, gave up 6 hits, struck out 4 and walk no batter. Digo Castro had 3 hits, including a triple, and scored 3 times. Jones contributed offensively with 2 hits and scored two times. Timo Mafnas reached the plate 4 times in the Expos victory.

Meanwhile, the 2000 Senior League Pennant Champions, Tanapag Braves, paved their way to the championship game this Saturday, June 10, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. after defeating the Knights 7-6 in the bottom of the last inning.

Jimmy Aliksa reached base on a walk, steal second and later advance to third on Darrel Castro’s routine grounder and scored the winning run on a throwing error as the Braves sealed the game that sent them to the championship game.

Jeremiah Suel had 2 hits and scored two times for the Braves’ victory. The Braves will face the Hustlers who trounced the D-9ers 5-2 as southpole Bobby Castro pitched 7 impressive innings by handcuffing the hard hitting D-9ers to just 6 hits, struck out 3 and gave up 2 walks.

Joe Borja had 2 hits and scored 2 times while Dane Lizama also had 2 hits and a run for the Hustlers.

Jessie Aguon led the D-9ers in the losing effort with 2 hits. The D-9ers will face the Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday for the third place.
