Ol’Aces captures Jr. League crown
The Ol’Aces proved their mastery on the diamond as they won the 2000 Junior League Baseball Championship crown by defeating their season arch rival Glazers 8-4 in one of the most thrilling and exciting comeback that happened in the last two innings of play.
Ol’Aces were down 3-1 entering the top of the 6th inning. They tied things up when Jess Wabol and Daryl Ada scored four more runs in the top of the 7th inning to take a commanding lead of 8-3 on numerous misplays by the Glazers.
Tyrone Fitial displayed another awesome performance on the hill as he checked the Glazers’ batters with 6 hits, struck out 2, gave no walks and no runs in 5 innings of relief.
Fitial was unanimously voted the Championship’s Most Valuable Player.
Daryl Ada scored two times with a double to left, so did Jess Wabol with 2 runs scored in the Ol’Aces victory.
Sam Babauta had 3 hits, including a triple, knocked in a run and also scored a run in the losing effort. The Glazers scored their first three runs in the bottom of the first inning and one more in the last inning but was a little short as Kevin Kaipat sealed the game when he greeted Jessie Agulto’s flyball to center for the games end.
Ol’Aces fans and players celebrated the thrill of victory while the Glazers settled for the agony of defeat.
Ol’Aces is managed by veteran softball and baseball star Jess Wabol, assisted by Roman Reyes and Henry Rabauliman. It is sponsored by D’s Game Room and Equitable Insurance Company.
In the consolation game for third place, the Comets walked away freely with a 7-0 forfeiture over the San Roque D’9ers who failed to field the required 9 players before game time.
