Search for parade grand marshal on
The search for the grand marshal of the 2000 Liberation Day parade on July 4 has commenced, and the public is encouraged to nominate candidates for this prestigious role.
Because this position represents the very best of the Northern Mariana Islands, qualified candidates must meet all of the following criteria, which were compiled by the 2000 Liberation Day Committee:
• Nominees must have personally lived through the experience of World War II;
• Nominees must be individuals of good character who exemplify good citizenship, loyalty to fellow citizens, and allegiance to the liberators of the CNMI;
• Nominees must demonstrate genuine contributions to the welfare of the CNMI community;
• Nominees must exemplify the symbolism and strengths of the Chamorro-Carolinian heritage; and
• Nominees’ lives should provide, for the community, examples of personal sacrifice and family values.
Everyone is encouraged to submit their nominations in writing to the Saipan Mayor’s Office. Note that the nominations should include specific details that support the candidate’s qualifications regarding each of the above criteria. For more information, please call Regina Torres-Ramsey at 234-6925.
