Chinese on prostitution case sent home

Chinese national Zhong Yi Lu, who was convicted of promoting prostitution in the second degree on two counts, was sent back to China yesterday morning.

The Superior Court has agreed to modify the two-year sentence on Mr. Zhong after he was found suffering from a debilitating hip condition which requires surgery. His remaining sentence has been suspended.

Mr. Zhong was first convicted of promoting prostitution on the second degree after he was arrested during a raid conducted by the police in Garapan in 1999. The court sentenced Mr. Zhong to a two-year imprisonment on Feb. 11, 2000 plus a $1,000 fine and $100 assessment fee.

He pled guilty to the second charge of promoting prostitution after he was arrested and charged in connection with the Red Light III operation in Garapan in November 1999. He was ordered to pay a $2,000 fee and a $1,000 fine.
