Classes are out for most youths in the CNMI, but the Saipan Garment Manufacturer’s Association (SGMA) is helping to make sure a few youth organizations and other charitable groups meet their goals for the summer.

The organization recently made donations to the Junior Statesman Program for their annual trip, and the CNMI Chapter of the National Forensic League for their participation in the national championships in Portland, Oregon.

In addition, SGMA donated funds to the 2000 Liberation Day Committee for a fireworks display and the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa for the Bishop’s annual fundraising project. SGMA also helped out a couple of sporting events by donating to the Marianas Eco-Adventure Youth Summer Camp, the NMI Tennis Association, and the Saipan Softball Association.

“SGMA tends to support youth organizations. We firmly believe in building a better future for the community by supporting young people in their work today,” said SGMA executive director Richard A. Pierce.

Mr. Pierce also mentioned that they’ve begun a small monthly donation each month to help the Chinese Association through its publication Saipan Chinese News. The goal is to educate the island’s Chinese workforce on public safety, traffic safety, and their rights as employees under the SGMA Code of Conduct as well as local and federal laws.
