Gastroenterologist/hepatologist arrives at CHC
Dr. Hamid Hussian arrived on island this week and has signed a long-term contract to provide full-time gastroenterologist and hepatology services at CHC, joining the Department of Internal Medicine.
Gastroenterology is the medical specialty concerned with function and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, including stomach, intestines, pancreas, and other associated organs. Hepatology is the branch of medicine concerned with disease of the liver.
Dr. Hussian is the Commonwealth’s first full-time gastroenterologist since 1997, and the first ever Hepatologist.
Dr. Hussian received his US Board Certification in Internal Medicine in 1998 after completing his residency in New York City. He then completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology (also in New York City), and received his board certification in Gastroenterology in 1999. Dr. Hussian most recently completed a fellowship in Hepatology at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Hussian comes with outstanding references from preeminent physicians in New York and Philadelphia. Dr. Hussian is skilled in many advanced endoscopic techniques, allowing diagnosis and treatment of conditions that previously had to be sent off island. He comes with unique skills in procedures that have never been available before at CHC.
The Department of Internal Medicine now boasts sub-specialists in Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonolgy, Infectious Disease, Gerontology, Hepatology, and Gastroenterology.
