The Governor’s Developmental Disabilities Council would like to invite individuals and agencies to participate in a seminar entitled “Supported Employment and Independent Living” which will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Office on Aging Conference Room.

The seminar will be conducted by Derrick Dunfrense, a nationally-recognized presenter from St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Dunfrense is the president of Community Resources Associates (CRA), a training and management consulting firm dedicated to promoting full community inclusion for people with disabilities. As president and founder of CRA, he has provided training and consultation to more than 15,000 people in 48 states since 1982.

It is the Councils goal that through independent living or community living activities will assist individuals with developmental disabilities to obtain and receive choice and to develop support in the community. More specifically, individuals with developmental disabilities exert control and choice over their own lives.

The seminar is designed primarily to teach individuals the importance of support to competitive employment and independent living.
This effort is within the DD Council’s goal toward interagency collaboration and coordination to better serve, support, assist, or advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities.
