Starting Monday, Aug. 14, 2000 the Commonwealth Ports Authority will activate the automated public parking system at the Port of Saipan parking lot.

Under the new system, vehicles may enter or exit at the newly constructed white concrete parking booth on the north side of the parking lot near the Seaport building.

When entering the parking lot, drivers will have to take a parking ticket from the automated parking machine. When they exit, they will turn in the ticket to the parking lot attendant to pay the parking fee.

The parking fee is $1 for every hour parked in the vicinity and a maximum of $10 for one day.

CPA implemented the parking fee system at the airport and seaport as a means to increase revenues to pay for its more than $50 million debt. The ports authority will carry out an evaluation of the parking fee revenue in the airport to find out if CPA is breaking even.
