Fr. Matthew praised by House members
The House of Representatives on Friday presented a resolution to Rev. Matthew Blockley, parish priest of San Jose Church in Oleai, for his outstanding work and spiritual guidance for its parishioners.
Members praised his dedication and efforts in the parish, including renovation of the church, since his ordination as a priest in July 1996 by Bishop Tomas A. Camacho.
They also acknowledged his success in uniting the multi-ethnic community composed of Carolinians, Chamorros, Filipinos and Caucasians to work on various parish projects such as the renovation and the holding of regular mass in Carolinian.
“Fr. Matthew Blockley is a priest who cared not only about the spiritual life of his parishioners, about San Jose Church, but is also a priest who cared about the clergy of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa,” read the resolution authored by Rep. Malua T. Peter.
In addition to his parish duties, Fr. Blockley, 34, served the diocese as financial director, director of development and member of the College of Consulators.
He also assisted Bishop Camacho in the establishment of his endowment fund as well as developed Mission Appeals for the Diocese of the United States of America, according to the resolution.
