Tinian Stallions vow to crush Saipan
Tinian Stallions are expected to give their counterparts from Marianas High School a difficult game to retain its title when the two teams meet up for the much awaited inter-school football tournament slated on October 28 and 29, 2000.
Tinian High School football coach Don Farrel said his players are prepared to give a good fight in the field as the Stallions gear up towards maintaining the championship title, which it holds four years in a row.
This, even as Mr. Farrel disclosed that the Tinian team is yet to receive any formal invitation from MHS or the Public School System for the annual football meet, which Saipan is yet to win in the last five years.
Team from Rota High School won the first title five years ago and the Stallions held the title since then for four years now. Mr. Farrel said THS is rooting for its fifth consecutive win although the team has not received any invitation yet.
The tournament is only about two weeks ahead and since THS is yet to receive the formal invitation from MHS, Mr. Farrel said the delay may derail the team’s ability to file authorization to travel for its member-students.
“The event is only about two weeks from now and we are still to receive the invitation which means we can’t file travel authorization for our students,” he said in a telephone interview.
“We hope that MHS will promptly send us official notification of when and where the game will be held,” he added. “Saipan is trying to be at Tinian and Rota but we are sure to give them a good fight.”
He added that THS has faxed MHS several times inquiring about the details of the annual football tournament, which Saipan is hosting this year, but is still to receive any response from the host school.
“Even if the Public School System does not pay our travel arrangement for our students, THS Stallions will be on Saipan wherever and whatever time, and we will win,” said Mr. Farrel.
However, MHS representatives said the official invitation has already been sent a month ago, adding that they will go ahead and fax THS and RHS another official notification of the tournament’s details.
