The first round of Rocball’s pre-season practice games has been completed with 16 teams registered to play this year. Each team will have two practice games to get their players out of the volleyball habit of playing a team net sport and adjusted to Rocball’s rules of play: Rocball the first game ever to develop and incorporate unrestricted hitting, offensive and defensive scoring, backcourt scoring, multiple point and penalty point scoring, goals and the quarter/set system of play in a team net sport.

In the first round of this year’s pre-season games, last year’s World Champions, the Jammers started out where they left off, winning. The Jammers played and defeated the Flyers in 3 sets 35 to 22. The Flyers are a reconstructed team with a lot of last year’s Chuukanos on their rosters. And, it was the Chuukanos that the Jammers had to defeat in the final playoff series to win Rocball’s World Championship title. In other pre-season games:

Islanders over Carokese in 2 sets 14 to 6

DX over Ghasias Brothers in 4 sets 36 to 30

Give-a-Hoot over Local Boys in 3 sets 26 to 4

Chronic Mixers over Blasters in 3 sets 40 to 17

Mo-mes over Wild Cats in 3 sets 35 to 11

Sink-or-Swim over Kenekens in 3 sets 30 to 4

Chronics over Get Covered in 4 sets 25 to 19

“In heavy hitting,” the term used to describe players who score in Rocball’s multiple point type scoring, Keri Mckay of Give-a-Hoot, MHS Physical Education teacher, and first year Rocball player out of South Dakota, was the top scorer with 6 aces and 2 xunks for 16 points. In fact Give-a-Hoot, MHS faculty team, placed three players in the top 6 heavy hitter’s category in the first pre-season round of Rocball. Give-a-Hoot player Fa’ea Talalemotu scored 2 goals, 2 xunks and 1 ace for 11 points and Tyce Mister scored 5 kees for 10 points.

Robert Bansil of the Flyers was the first player to score a goal to start off this year’s Rocball games. Robert, who came in as the number three heavy hitter in the first round of pre-season games, scored 2 goals, 2 kees and 2 aces for 14 points. Shirley Igisomar of Mo-mes, scored 5 aces, 1 xunk and 1 goal for 15 points was the number two heavy hitter and Ruslyn Billy of the Chronics, placed in at number four heavy hitter with 6 aces for 12 points.
