The Issue: The hiring of 700 plus employees was fodder for criticism by some policy makers.

Our View: The greater issue isn’t the hiring as much as what have you done at wealth and jobs creation.

The hiring of 700 plus public employees over the last year came under fire by critics who asserted that the money is best spent on programs.

It’s a good view but equally laden with viciousness, meaning the critic totally neglected his role as a policy maker in wealth and jobs creation.

Certainly, it is easy said than done to level politically motivated criticisms against the Teno administration. But then critics totally neglected their fiduciary duties in wealth and jobs creation. As such, they are equally guilty of the hiring done by the administration for they too failed to work diligently in the creation of wealth that would translate into the creation of more jobs.

Lest critics forget, it was in 1983 that the last major investment came into these isles. How sad that only a handful have been able to push through legislation that would set up these isles for the benefits of information technology. That legislation, designed to set the legal infrastructure, is languishing in the Senate. This and other equally substantive measures aimed at encouraging investment anew are in dire need of serious and accelerated review.

Well, with election year right around the corner, perhaps it’s time that voters critically review the performance record of lawmakers who are agile at fanning politically correct statements over the more lasting decisions on wealth and jobs creation. We salute Speaker Ben Fitial for his leadership and wisdom in this regard. March on, Mr. Speaker, these isles need something other than the attitude of “business as usual”. Si Yuus Maase` yan ghilisow!
