Ambyth Shipping is ISO 9002 certified

Ambyth’s Ship Agency Services on Guam and Saipan has been awarded ISO 9002 certification, earning them the distinction of being among very few businesses in the region to reach this coveted international quality standard.
Certification by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), an independent standards body headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, has long been recognized in Europe and the United States as a crucial component of conducting quality business on a global scale.

The Ambyth Group sought ISO certification for its Guam and Saipan ship agency companies — Ambyth Shipping & Trading, Inc. and Ambyth Shipping Micronesia, Inc. — in order to improve the quality of service to its customers and increase the company’s efficiency, according to company management.

“Many of our international clients require their vendors to be ISO-certified. ISO 9000 provides a tested framework for managing a complex business like ours that must consistently provide services that conform to, or exceed, customer’s expectations,” said Ambyth Group Vice President Greg David.

While it is a common practice worldwide for companies seeking ISO certification to hire outside management consultants to help satisfy the rigorous requirements, Ambyth’s management decided on in-house development of company policies and procedures.

“From upper management on down, I wanted every one of our employees to appreciate the value of doing this for our business,” said Mr. David. “Our ISO 9002 certification is the result of great team effort and commitment to quality. Every member of our freight, operations, accounting, and administrative staff made invaluable contributions to improving internal systems and procedures.”

Ambyth contracted the internationally recognized independent ISO certifying body American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) to conduct the stringent ISO assessment.

Ambyth’s successful December 2000 audit was conducted by Captain Amar Hanspal, Head of Consulting & Training Asia Pacific of ABS Group Inc.’s Singapore office.

Vanessa Cruz has been recently appointed Quality Assurance Manger for the Ambyth Group of Companies. “Obtaining the ISO certification is proof that Ambyth’s Ship Agency Division is committed to quality. I’m very proud to say that our Guam and Saipan companies have developed well integrated management systems for achieving greater customer satisfaction,” she said.

Ambyth Shipping & Trading began operations on Guam in 1974 and expanded its operations to Saipan in 1987. In addition to being a shipping agency, Ambyth owns and operates a number of other companies that provide a full range of shipping services such as ship repair and maintenance, air and sea freight forwarding, trucking and warehousing.
