Whoever said police authorities are immune from being attacked are mistaken — a Korean man proved them wrong early Sunday morning.

But then, he later found himself in police custody on charges that he assaulted a law enforcement officer who who forbade him from driving under the influence of alcohol.

Gyu Moon Kim, 33, from San Vicente, was taken into police custody on charges of assault and battery and resisting arrest.

According to Public Safety spokesperson Cecil Celes, Mr. Kim was a passenger of a private vehicle that rammed into a police car that morning.

When police arrested the reckless driver, Mr. Kim was left at the crash scene at the 13 Fishermen Pavilion along Beach Road with two police officers who were investigating the incident.

Aware that Mr. Kim was in no condition to drive, an officer instructed Mr. Kim to go across the street to call for a ride home.

But the suspect refused to heed the police officer’s advice, insisting on driving himself home with the car.

He then started pushing the officer who kept on reminding him to seek for a designated driver to take him home. Despite attempts by police to calm the suspect down, Mr. Kim would not cooperate.

Mr. Kim then began to shout and scream at the officer. Again, he pushed the officer who told him he could not drive his car home. When police put the suspect under arrest, he retaliated by refusing to get into the police car.

Authorities had to apply minimal force on the suspect for him to cooperate. (MM)
