At least 15 students from various schools left last week to attend the annual Saipan-Sanpo-En, Japan Cultural Exchange Program in efforts to educate the youth on diverse culture and traditions between the two countries.

Student Exchange coordinator Carolyn Dlg. Chargualaf said the program aims to provide the delegates on-hand information on Japan cultural and traditional ways of living.

The delegates include 15 students who will be staying in Sanpo-En for a week to visit historical sites and get learning techniques to be provided by their counterparts in Japan.

Ms. Chargualaf said the program has been going on for 25 years and has always been a success with the educational learning experiences imparted to CNMI youth.

The Saipan-Sanpo-En Cultural Exchange program is a educational learning experience for the delegates especially on areas of Japan’s heritage which give the students a better understanding on the country’s culture and traditions.

The Office of the Mayor has been actively promoting the exchange program with the concerted efforts of community members, teachers and parents of the delegates.

The student exchange coordinator explained the delegates raised funds to pay for the expenditures but the Mayor’s Office and Sanpo-En representatives worked doubly hard to provide the delegates discounted rates on their plane fares.

The activities for the student exchange program include family home-stay programs, visit to existing temples and historical monuments, and various cultural activities. The delegation is composed of students from 13 to 17 years old. (EGA)
