PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (PIDP/CPIS) — The US Department of Treasury has approved more than 3,000 local federal Child Tax Credit claims for tax years 1998 and 1999, bringing in more than $4.2 million to the local economy.

Governor Tauese Sunia said the local government received $4.2 million from the U.S. Treasury for CTC.

Most of the funding already has been distributed to about 3,500 taxpayers.

An additional $500,000 will not be distributed until taxpayers make corrections to their claims.

The government estimates that it will receive between $2.5-$3 million each year, from now on, from the federal government to pay for the CTC claims. He urged local taxpayers to filed their 2000 tax claims as soon as possible so the forms can be processed and forwarded to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which reviews all requests.
