Give-a-Hoot, Islanders rule Rocball • Teams take lead in men’s and women’s division respectively

After four rounds of Rocball action, Give-a-Hoot from the men’s/mixed division and the Islanders from the women division remain undefeated. Of the original seventeen teams which registered for this year’s games, ten remain in contention for Rocball’s World Championship title.

The latest victims of Rocball’s three game elimination season of play come from the men’s/mixed division, the Flyers and Kenekens. In addition to this, four more teams, the Local Boys, Chronics, Carokese, and Chronic Mixers are at two losses each and are facing possible elimination in round five of Rocball action.

In the first game of round four, DX defeated the Flyers in four sets 51 to 26. This was the game that eliminated the Flyers from any further Rocball action.

The Flyers started off well, winning the first set 15 to 12. But, after the first set the DX settled down into a cruise mode of play and finished off the Flyers 14 to 0, 17 to 8 and were leading 8 to 3 in the fourth set when time expired. Melvin Seman of DX was the heavy hitter of the game scoring 5 aces, 1 xunk, and 3 kees for 18 points.

In the second and third games of round four, the Local Boys buried the Chronic Mixers in four sets, 38 to 2. And, the Ghasias Brothers blasted out the Kenekens in a four set “Juice” game 59 to 22. Shaun Fitial of the Local Boys was the heavy hitter in his game against the Kenekens.

Shaun scored 4 aces, 1 xunk, and 1 kee for 12 points. Mike Olaitiman of the Ghasias Brothers was the heavy hitter in his game against the Kenekens. Mike scored 8 aces, 2 kees, and 1 goal for 23 points.

In the fourth game of round four, the Chronics defeated the Carokese in a hard played four set game 37 to 31. Syreta Atalig of the Chronics was the games heavy hitter. Syreta scored 1 xunk, 2 kees, and 3 goals for 15 points.

In the games where the undefeated competed and where only two teams emerged boss without loss, team Give-a-Hoot knocked off last year’s champions, the Jammers, in three sets, 15 to 8, 10 to 0, and 12 to 7 for a 37 to 15 victory.

The Islanders, last year’s women’s champions, almost lost their game their first game to the Covered Girls. The Covered Girls came out hard and heavy, defeating the Islanders in the first and third sets 17 to 12 and 16 to 5.

The Islanders had to come from behind twice to pull off their win. The Islanders won the second set, scunk 11 to 0 and with a last minute rally in the fourth set, they were just able to edge out the Covered Girls at 35 to 34.

Tyce Mister of team Give-a-Hoot was the heavy hitter in the game against the Jammers. Tyce scored 2 aces, 2 xunks, 4 kees, and 3 goals for 25 points. Marie Tonga of the Islanders was the heavy hitter in the game against the Covered Girls. Marie scored 4 aces, 6 xunks, and 1 kee for 22 points.
