Rep. Stanley Torres is calling Attorney David A Wiseman’s bluff and wants the Superior Court associate judge nominee to undertake a drug test.

During last Tuesday’s Executive Appointments Governmental Investigations Committee (MAGI) hearing, Mr. Wiseman denied having smoked marijuana and taking illegal drugs in the past.

He was responding to queries from the Senate floor and even said he was willing to submit to a drug test to prove his innocence and his detractors wrong.

Mr. Torres, however, remained steadfast in his allegations of drug use by Mr. Wiseman.

“If I’m not mistaken, some of the drugs he has taken sticks to the body like cement,” Mr. Torres said. “Failing the drug test would mean Mr. Wiseman committed perjury since he told the Senate he has never taken prohibited drugs all his life.”

Mr. Torres believes some of the illegal substances Attorney Wiseman took years ago can still be detected by a drug exam.

After calling Mr. Wiseman’s bluff, the lawmaker then turned his ire against EAGI Chair Joaquin Adriano and members of the committee. Mr. Torres accused Senator Adriano and other Senators of going “soft” on Mr. Wiseman.

He even disclosed there are already three or four senators who have indicated they will likely confirm Mr. Wiseman when the committee hearing resumes during the week.

Mr. Torres even jokingly chided the Senators to take the drug test themselves. He blamed them for seemingly letting Mr. Wiseman off the hook by allowing a platoon of pro-Wiseman witnesses to testify last Tuesday.

Mr. Torres also challenged Sen. Ray Guerrero to inhibit himself from the proceedings. He argued that the senator’s past dealings with Mr. Wiseman will make his vote on Mr. Wiseman’s confirmation a biased one.

He accused Mr. Guerrero of having evaded land taxes when he bought parcels from the associate judge nominee, which were devalued as much as $150,000.

The witch hunt, however, did not stop there. Aside from Mr. Wiseman and the senators, Mr. Torres apparently also wants former Justice and Special Attorney-on call Monty Taylor to take a drug test.
