A Chamorro male was arrested and charged yesterday for illegal possession of a controlled substance after police discovered the suspect apparently smoking a joint inside a parked car.

Ronaldo Peter Santos was apprehended by authorities aboard his vehicle parked behind an apartment building in Chalan Kanoa. The 30-year-old suspect was found laid back on the passenger’s seat of the automobile with a knife on his lap.

Suspicious of the dangerous weapon resting on his upper leg, the police officer asked the suspect if he would permit a consent search to be conducted inside his vehicle.

At Mr. Santos’ approval, police scanned the interior of the car. His search yielded traces of dried-up salt-like substances later on identified as metamphetamine or ice.

The substances were packed inside a clear cylinder tube contained inside a black pouch along with straws and lighters. Mr. Santos voluntarily told the officer the left over substance inside the tube was ice he bought from a man earlier that evening.

In an interview with police, he admitted he purchased the ice for the amount of $30. After the admission, he was then booked for illegal possession of controlled substance charges. (MM)
